The Sultan Bahu Centre(SBC) has always stood with the motto of serving. Serving, helping and trying to make a positive difference in society, one day at a time. The centre functions as a team of individuals working together in an organisation, and has planned, thought and initiated an active approach in trying to serve huminity.
Starting in our own backyards, with neighbours and friends we try to tackle the problems of the community. We discover the gaps that need filling and to fill them with love, humility, sincerity and caring.
Fundraising
One of the major programs to raise funds is the annual fete. The fete allows the coming together of the community in an islamic environment of fun and laughter. The fete also provides a platform for small to large entrepreneurs to display their wares.
Social outreach employment program
We all know someone who is unemployed. In 2007 the SBC launched an e-mail based advertising employment program. It offers recruitment companies and anyone offering employment FREE ADVERTISING, a database has been built of thousands of subscribers over email. Our employment ads goes out to our mailing lists once a week. Companies like Emmanuals, Quest and Call Force Direct are some of the companies that advertise with us.
Hospital Visits
Regular visits are made to hospitals to aid the ill who do not have family support or that need moral and financial aid. The team at the SBC offer their shoulders for support and offer counselling services wherever they can.
Health Clinic
The SBC opens its doors to the public to a free health service. The clinic offers basic services including testing and or measuring of blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol. This clinic is staffed by volunteer medical personnel from the community as well as staff from the Garden City Clinic. part of the Netcare Group.
Legal Clinic
The Legal system is out of reach for many residents in the community due to its complexity and the associated costs with services. The SBC addresses this need of the poor by making available lawyers who volunteer to provide legal advice and basic guidelines for those that are in need. This service is currently being restructured.
Prison Visits
Visits to prisoners give them a sense of hope and support. Reassurance to reflect on the mistakes of the past. To make them understand the greater purpose of life and that team of the SBC can help them build a better life when they leave rehabilitation. They are offered a chance to get back into society and start living over again.
